Inspection is done
The inspector came about 3 pm today. Gave everything the nod. (But I do have to install a smoke detector in the hallway by the time final inspection is done.)
The garage Mud sink got an upgrade. Saved the faucet from the old sink so now the garage has a bit of class.
Plumbing and electrical are roughed in.
Past the point of no return!
The old kitchen was gutted today. Tomorrow begins the improvements. Plumbing and electrical are scheduled. The dark areas on the wall are the “backs” of our old cabinets—just paint on the wall. Guess we did not get the top drawer cabinets back in 1971. The original wall color was pretty dark and dull, too.
A new kitchen after so long
It has been in the planning stage since April this year. But things are now actually happening. We have had the new appliances for a while. Yesterday the cabinets were delivered. Today they got unpacked and inspected. Tomorrow the old kitchen goes!
If all goes well, we will be up and running by August. In the meantime, we will keep progress pictures coming.
Duckies
We made our annual pilgrimage to San Jose a little early this year. Normally we go for Father’s day weekend as that is also around our son’s birthday. This year he had special plans for his birthday. Trish arranged for us to go to the Silicone Valley Duck race. We’ve been to the Ocean version at the Huntington Beach pier. This was lots different.
The event is three years old now. Last year they had sponsors for about three thousand ducks. This year it was fifteen thousand. That is a lot of duck (...)
Mother has passed away
Mother passed away last Sunday Morning. She was 91. Tomorrow is her memorial. We have prepared a memorial picture show. Click on the image below.
I hope to be composed enough to say the following words at the service:
Mom meant a lot to many people. She acted in little theater-that was before I was old enough to remember much. She and my father taught people to enjoy round dancing. But not me-immersion therapy, I guess. She had been a Yoga instructor-our children knew her as the Grand mo (...)
February Furry
I made it home last night! I was supposed to leave on Thursday. They got the airport open, but not the roads I needed to take to get there.
February Furry
I left California one sunny day (February 3rd) to help move my father from an independent living apartment into an assisted living one in the same complex in Frederick, Maryland. I stayed with my sister who lives in the area (and who was also helping with the move.)
My sister has a theory that when I travel in the winter it snows where she is. (This is due to a long history of "coincidental" snow storms when I traveled.) Well, I out did myself this time. Two storms of 30 inches and then 20 inch (...)
The garden
We have a resident Coopers hawk that hunts in our garden. Mostly he catches pigeons since apparently they cannot look "above" themselves and the hawk comes from the sky. Normally he would take his kill into one of the trees to eat. However this day was quite windy so I guess he had to make due with the ground.
We can usually tell when he is in the yard. There are no birds on the feeder then.
